California fully reopened a week ago today, June 15th, removing most Covid-19 restrictions for businesses. Data have shown that California, despite harsh restrictions, is still the number one economy in the country.
Part of the reason for the success is California's relatively strong vaccination campaign, and the fact that California's wealthiest industries are mostly white collar and tech workers that did not have to shut down during the pandemic - they just shifted their work and business to their homes. Because of that, California's income tax intake led it to a nearly $76 billion surplus, and that's not factoring in the Covid-19 relief funds the federal government has allocated to the state.
Now is a chance to take advantage of the recovery. Small businesses are seeing an easier time applying for loans, state unemployment benefits are being extended, and the state is also disbursing more pandemic relief funds. All that equates to more money in people's pockets which are likely to be spent on businesses.
